What is research but a blind date with knowledge!

One searches for something that you have lost, isn’t it? But research is when you believe something exists, but you have neither seen it nor experienced it. Yet you go on regardless, searching for that, which has yet not been conceived! You keep looking for the missing link, to the questions that arise in your mind. Indeed, it is like going on a blind date. You don’t know who you will encounter- a beauty or brawn without brains or a bright chirpy partner for the evening. Indeed, all inventions are the result of the incubation of research.

Mankind has made progress by leaps and bounds in every field. No matter what field we talk about, we would not have reached where we are today without research. The process of research may differ, but searching again and again, everyday religiously, alone would get you result. Here the use of the word religion, has nothing to do with religion, though the tactics are the same. Research must be done consistently, with the ready to give up everything attitude- time, worldly distractions, and attractions! Researchers are often self-centred. No. That is not the whole truth. They do not even care for their own comforts. They are willing to give up all. Now, is that not what is the core of any religion? Indeed, it is.

Well, even saints, saints we reckon with and who have left footprints for the masses to follow, kept searching for years for the true answers. Their knowledge or gyan was not outside but within. They did their research by going within themselves, through meditation. And no matter how long their penance was (research in this context), they stumbled suddenly on their answers. Remember, Buddha got it under the Bodhi tree!

Talking of scientists, remember where Archimedes met his blind date after years of research? In the bathtub!

Research at present times happen mostly online. It is a digital world. This world has more knowledge than ever before. Though it is accessible to almost all of us. There are researchers of all sorts, some who are creating codes to make the world a better place, while others to make slaves of the world to amass riches and wield their power, what remains true is that they will stumble on their answers almost suddenly. Afterall we all find what we are looking for. Or do we?

In many Science fiction movies, research end up in creating havoc! Will the researcher at the end of the maze find what he started his journey for? Will he find the princess or the witch? To make it gender neutral let me add, will the researcher find a Prince or a monster! Indeed it is a blind date!
